Aging - What Factors Give Your Age Away?
Both the pleasures and stresses of life along with the simple passage of time can make our skin appear older. These signs of aging and sun damage are unfortunately most visible on a persons' face. The overall appearance of aging skin is primarily related to sun exposure. Research shows that the cumulative effects of the sun go deeper than once thought. Ultraviolet damage goes below the surface to the skin's structural components - such as collagen and elastin. Other factors, such as genetics and rosacea, also play a large role in how old one's skin appears.
In the past decade, a number of face rejuvenation procedures have been developed. It began with eyelid surgery and microdermabrasion and progressed to laser treatments. Because of these advances in technology, Eye Life Institute can address each of these aging "sings" successfully. Each procedure targets all or some of the effects of aging with prices to match most people's budget.
For example, as you age, the pigment in your skin becomes mottled - areas that are darker as well as lighter. Depending on the amount of your sun exposure, you'll develop sunspots, or age spots. In the twenties and thirties, women in particular can develop areas of hyperpigmentation across their cheeks and forehead. By the forties, the skin on the upper lip and chin will begin to darken. Of course, those predisposed will have a continued darkening under the eyes.
As women age, facial flushing and small broken blood vessels around the nose may also become more evident and age one's appearance.
The benefit of knowing these facts, while depressing, is that you can do many things to correct the majority of them.
Understanding the aging process helps one evaluate their own "visual age" and will assist you in deciding which rejuvenating treatment is most beneficial for you.
Eye Life Institute specializes in surgical as well as nonsurgical cosmetic procedures.
BOTOX Cosmetic is an FDA approved treatment for frown lines. The face is still expressive, but without tired-looking lines and creases. This simple, 10-minute procedure comes with no downtime.
Those patients that want to eliminate more than just frown lines often opt for Microdermabrasion. Microdermabrasion is a non-surgical procedure that gently eliminates fine lines and wrinkles. A series of 3 or 4 treatments paced a few weeks apart is our patients' most popular option. This lunchtime procedure removes dead skin cells and sloughs off the top few layers of skin.
This mild procedure is often the choice of persons with acne scars and persons suffering from other general skin conditions.
Another noninvasive solution, Photo Facial Rejuvenation, uses a gentle flash of light to remove unwanted hair as well as to treat age spots, broken capillaries and blotchy brown pigmentation. Both the neck and chest respond extremely well to this treatment. Some of our patients combine this treatment with microdermabrasion. Photo Rejuvenating involves no downtime and is ideal for busy working patients. And, recent studies show it not only smoothes the surface and reduces redness, it also boosts collagen production deep in the dermis for an overall tightening effect.
As we age, fat distribution changes. The hollows in our cheeks deepen and the fat below our eyes may begin to protrude, causing bags to form. As the skin becomes lax on the forehead, the brow droops. Eyelid and facial surgery are time-honored solutions to these signs of aging. Cosmetic surgery is conveniently performed right here at Paradise in Eye Life Institute's surgical suites.
